Seeing The Grand
Beathtaking grandeur ...
Humbling attempt to convey ...
Viewer's Ooohh - Success!
Conveying the grand vista is a challenge - how can the image be as captivating as the real thing?
Teanaway River in autumn has some fine color. In this image, I took some liberties with decreasing clarity to achieve my desired effect.
The dramatic color and sky is from sun setting through blowing sand and smoke from a distant forest fire. Note the Asperatus clouds.
This pothole (or tinija) in the sandstone colored by lichen and minerals is a fine foreground for the dappled canyon walls illuminated through a cumulus-filled sky.
The upper Big Hole River runs through quiet cattle country.
Looking down into this valley, one can easily imagine the Eden of Navajo and predecessor peoples who inhabited the place. A short distance from this viewpoint is a historical site of almost unspeakable horror.
I was entranced by the succession of textures in this scene.
